Late harvest
Late harvest wines are sweet wines made using grapes which have been left to over-ripen on the vine, exposed to the development of fungal diseases as well as to the appearance of frosts and cold weather. In France, Vendange tardive is the term they’re known by and Spätlese in German-speaking countries. The Jurançon late harvest wines and Malvasías from the Canary Islands are both very highly regarded, but the most prestigious are those which have been given their own name: this includes the Sélections de Grains Nobles from Alsace, Hungary’s Tokaji, Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese from Austria and Germany, along with other types of Noble Rot wines (or Botrytised wines) and Ice wines. They’re naturally sweet wines, which means there’s no need to add vinous alcohol, as would be the case for Natural sweet wines or Vin Doux Naturel. All this richness is here for you on the Vinissimus website. An abundance of sweetness from all over, with various styles and prices!
