More than a hundred hectares under a certified organic regime in the centre of Langa is quite a few. Yet this is the Fontanafredda miracle, the historic winery from Serralunga d'Alba whose foundation dates back to the mid-nineteenth century. A project, led today by Oscar Farinetti, which looks back at history but above all to the future, with extraordinary sensitivity for packaging, marketing and distribution. Protecting the landscape here is at one with the protection of a cultural and accommodating heritage, so much so that the estate includes a theatre, which hosts many events, a tavern, an award-winning restaurant and a relais. The farm is based on a large number of suppliers, looked after by an astronomically-high level wine staff.

Naturally the Barolos stand out. The Serralunga is crunchy, drinkable, and above all of an extraordinarily competitive price. The property in Fontanafredda is also opulent but tantalizing, with austere but unbeatable tannins at the table. The selections, first of all the La Rosa, represent the excellence of the territory.

Epitome of quality also for the Barbaresco Costa Rubin, fresh and snappy, not to mention the Marne Brune, a fruity and alluring Nebbiolo d'Alba. Among the whites, for fruit and freshness, the Arneis Pradalupo, characteristic of Roero, stands out.

Amongst the bubblies, which in Langa are perhaps the fastest-growing product, Fontanafredda offers a complete range of full excellence. And finally the Moscato d'Asti, which with Moncucco proves to be one of the most appreciated of the appellation for grace, sweetness and minerality.
