Finca La Melonera
La Melonera is an estate nestled in the Serranía de Ronda, a sub-zone of the Sierras de Málaga D.O., and a top-quality wine-growing project, involved in the restoration of varieties on the verge of distinction and in harmony with the countryside, under the leadership of four shareholders, one of which is the Perelada Group (owners of Castillo de Perelada), that is responsible for vineyard management.
The estate comprises 196 hectares, of which 9.5 are vineyards, with 4 of these farmed entirely organically and the rest in the process of being converted. They grow the red indigenous grape varieties Tintilla de Rota, Blasco, Corchero Tinta and Melonera, and the whites Quiebratinajas, Morisco and Platera. They also grow the classic Mediterranean varieties Garnacha, Syrah, Monastrell and Cariñena.
Although the variety that gives its name to the winery, the Melonera, occupies only one hectare of plantation, it is currently the largest area in the world dedicated to this grape.
