Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Robert Parker noticed it too. The DOC Orcia is one of the most interesting emerging Tuscan wineries. An area that can renew the glories of Chianti and Brunello in a different guise, sumptuous yes, but snappy. This is demonstrated by the wines of Donatella Cinelli Colombini, president of the Orcia DOC consortium, which have in fact won the most significant awards from international guides. For Donatella, new technologies and tradition are not alternatives, but complementary. Inspired by a great spirit of female entrepreneurship, she has applied the most modern winemaking techniques to her cellar to recover the tradition while respecting the correctness and grandeur of the wines.
The Montalcino estate, Casato Prime Donne, now produces some of the reference products of the type. The other property, Fattoria del Colle, produces bottled wines such as Toscana IGT, Chianti DOCG or Orcia DOC. Here, in Trequanda, south of Chianti, around a marvellous 16th century farmhouse open to the public, Donatella produces its typical Orcia wines.
There is Leone, the softest and most immediate Orcia, Sangiovese with a balance of Merlot, persuasive and full-bodied. It owes its name to the coat of arms of Donatella’s aristocratic family. Then Cenerentola, perhaps the wine of the heart, Donatella’s real challenge. An original blend of Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda that, after a period in tonneau and cement barrels, produces a subtle and spicy bouquet and an exotic, full and powerful palate. Il Drago e le Otto Colombe, again Sangiovese and Merlot, is a tribute to Donatella's husband ("the dragon") and to the eight women who work in the winery. It is the host supertuscan, full, harmonious and of great structure: with a multide of awards!
