Domaine de Majas
The Domaine de Majas vineyard is planted around Caudiès Fenouillèdes on a total of 30 hectares: an atypical landscape combining vineyards, meadows and forests, in the Fenouillèdes valley (Eastern Pyrenees, Roussillon).
It lies between 350 and 400 metres above sea level, where the climatic conditions are unique in the region: hot and sunny summers, but very harsh winters. The estate is sometimes swept by the Tramuntana (north-westerly wind) or cooled by the sea breeze, laden with humidity from the Mediterranean.
In order to enhance the original expression of their terrois in the wines of Domaine de Majas, Agnes and Alain Carrère Alain chose to convert their vineyards to organic viticulture in 2007 and have the valuable collaboration of Tom Lubbe (prestigious South African winemaker) to make their wines, cuvées known as ‘Trois Arbres’.
Their philosophy is one of minimal intervention, winemaking with indigenous yeasts, wines that stand out for their fruitiness, freshness and the mineral character of the terroir that gives them life.
