Ca' Lojera
The name of the Ca' Lojera winery means "House of wolves" in the local dialect. However, there are no signs of wolves in the Tiraboschi family's winery and the only danger you face is the risk of falling in love with one of their excellent wines. The winery's name, linked to the legendary presence of wolves in the area many years ago, is, in fact, a guarantee of quality for the whole Lugana appellation. The owners Ambra and Franco, a friendly and down-to-earth married couple, transformed their fruit and vegetable company into this family-run winery back in the 1990s. Their wines, produced from 18 hectares of Turbiana grapes, offer a faithful expression of the DOC Lugana appellation.
The area, a region of hills and small mountains with spectacular views over Lake Garda, used to have many natural springs and was crossed by irrigation channels. Nowadays the clay soils are ideal for vine-growing. Some vines are over 50 years old, having survived changes in winemaking trends in the area.
The Tiraboschi family are independent winemakers with a clear philosophy regarding their wine production: their Lugana wines are a faithful expression of the area with a strong commitment to verticality, freshness and minerality and no concessions are made to more commercial aspects like structure or excessively pretentious refining processes. All their wines are created with the same style excepte the Lugana Superiore, which is aged for two years in wood, but in large barrels so as not to lose the character of the terroir. Even their Riserva del Lupo, made from partially botrytised grapes, is only vinified in stainless steel tanks to maintain the Ca'Lojera character.
