Bodegas Señorío de Líbano
Bodegas Señorío de Líbano takes over from Bodegas Castillo de Sajazarra, founded in 1973 by Alfonso Líbano, and currently run by the third generation. It is a family winery that aims to produce elegant, friendly wines with personality.
Bodegas Señorío de Líbano has 48 hectares of vineyards, almost half of which are organically farmed, located in the north-westernmost part of La Rioja Alta, specifically in the towns of Sajazarra, Vilaseca de Rioja, Galbarruli and Castilseco. The vineyards, which cover the entire production of the winery, have Graciano, Garnacha and Tempranillo varieties, the most predominant. Most of the plantations grow on clay-limestone soils, which gives the grapes finesse and delicacy, as well as enhancing their quality and nobility.
Protected from the north winds by the Obárenes Mountains, the vineyards thus obtain an extreme climatic and viticultural singularity with respect to the rest of the areas. And it is in the foothills of these vineyards, at an altitude of 500-700 metres, where the winery's emblematic estates are located: Galdara, Los Corrales and Fuente Negra, where the reserve reds with the most personality are obtained.
The cultivation techniques have been designed to obtain the maximum expressiveness of the local grape, which gives the wines a great personality. Among the operations we carry out in our vineyards, the absence of chemical fertilisers, the absence of irrigation and the severe thinning and clipping of bunches to limit yields as much as possible stand out.
Bodegas Señorío de Líbano uses the latest technology in order to obtain wines of the highest quality. For this purpose, they have a building with concrete tanks and truncated cone-shaped tanks, an ageing building, vats and a storage building. Semi-buried, the 800 square metre ageing hall houses 2,500 American and French oak barrels and has the optimum humidity and temperature conditions to provide the barrels with regular and stable ageing. The underground storage and bottle cellar occupies 350 square metres and houses up to 325,000 bottles of different brands and vintages.
Bodegas Señorío de Líbano currently produces its wines under the Rioja appellation but owns 5 hectares of recently planted vineyards (2006) in the Alella appellation, where it hopes to produce quality white wines in the near future to complete its product portfolio.
