Bodegas Montecillo
The origins of Bodegas Montecillo are to be found in Fuenmayor, one of the villages with a longer history of winemaking in Rioja Alta. Surrounded by vines and close to the serene and benevolent waters of the majestic Ebro, the landscape of Fuenmayor is one of gentle hills and, in the distance, the rocky outcrop of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains.
The locals have always known that the spectacular El Montecillo landscape is home to top quality vines. The winery takes its name from here, a name which symbolizes its character and vocation built on the foundations of these unique vineyards. The tough yet gratifying character of the area is expressed perfectly in the wines thanks to the excellent work carried out ageing them in barrels and the bottle. Vines and traditions come together in the very nature of Bodegas Montecillo, the third oldest winery in Rioja.
Over 150 years after its foundation, Bodegas Montecillo maintains its philosophy of working with the utmost respect for the vineyards, selecting the very best fruit, and a careful winemaking process. Wines are aged in high quality oak barrels and refined in underground cellars alongside vintages dating back to 1926, the year the DOCa Rioja appellation was created.
