Artimino
Artimino 1596 winery is the perfect combination of a great project of history, territory and quality philosophy, an impressive summary of the essence of Tenuta di Artimino. Artimino is an amazing land, an unspoilt place where viticulture is lost in the mists of time.
The soil characteristics and the microclimate offer ideal conditions for viticulture, particularly for the Sangiovese grapes, which grow among ancient settlements on the hills surrounding the fabulous Villa La Ferdinanda, built back in 1596.
The winery is close to the villa, the hotel and the gourmet restaurant: it is here that excellent wines are produced, such as the famous Chianti Docga and the historic Carmignano Docga, a wine with a fascinating history linked to the Medici family.
Its vineyards are divided into two historic zones. On one side are the hills of Carmignano, loved by Leonardo da Vinci and the Medici, and on the other is the Chianti Montalbano area.
In the centre flows the Arno river, which contributes to a unique microclimate, with soil and climatic conditions ideal for growing vines.
Mild winters, humidity, the excellent location of the vineyards, the mountains that protect them and the surrounding forests guarantee great biodiversity.
Plots of sandstone are interspersed with clay and sometimes rich in limestone.
Each grape variety is planted after careful study of the soil and the plot, as well as careful consideration of the clones and rootstocks.
The 70 hectares are located between 200 and 400 metres above sea level and are planted in such a way that each variety grown can best exhibit its qualities.
