Castro Ventosa Valtuille Vino de Villa
2022Spec sheet
The wine
Valtuille Vino de Villa is a red that’s very serious, with fullness and depth, showing us all the richness the vineyard of a unique village can offer. With minimal intervention, the wine manages to construe this Bierzo landscape with the utmost respect and absolute elegance. A red that sets itself apart due to its fragrance and balance, freshness and easiness. The sort of wine always to have close at hand.
What does this wine taste like?
It’s serious, subtle and scented; refined, expressive and very delicate. Evocative aromas of tiny red strawberries waft on a background of floral notes, spices and intense mineral hints. It’s medium-bodied, with great balance and freshness, thanks to the early harvesting of some of the plots. The tannins are distinguished and slightly grainy, allowing the whole bunch to be discerned fully on the palate. It’s able to combine purity and fineness, with a very seductive feel, almost creamy. It takes its leave as all greats do, leaving behind it a persistent hint which highlights again the powerfulness of the fruit.

Vineyards
Villegas / El Val / La Rata
It’s a selection of barrels from the hundred-year old vineyards of Villegas, El Val and La Rata, three areas especially liked by Castro Ventosa. The vines are aged between 40 and 100 years old and are planted on lands that are steeply inclined and mainly facing north. The various village plots are fermented separately and include Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) and Bastardo grapes, as well as some local white varieties. The blend from different locations adds an extra dimension to the wine, and even more complexity.
