Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The lieu-dit from Valtuille produced by multiple producers is also part of the Castro Ventosa portfolio with the 2021 Valtuille El Rapolao. The vines from the centenary plot, one of the oldest from the Pérez family, delivered balanced grapes that fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts (a constant in all their wines) and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for one year. It has 13.24% alcohol and reveals integrated acidity with good freshness and balance. This is perfumed but more exuberant than the 2021 Villegas, with an almost Moscatel-like twist, very fine and elegant. Superb. 1,800 bottles were filled in March 2023.

El Rapolao

Rapolao is the Bierzo’s most famous vine-growing site thanks to the impetus given by Raúl Pérez and the Castro Ventosa family. A vineyard primarily planted with the Mencía variety, on a hillside, at an altitude of 500 m and facing westwards, in the coolest area of Valtuille de Abajo. The grapes ripen later and pick up all the aromas of the landscape, which are reflected in due course in the wine’s aromatic richness.
