The wine

The project which the Antinori family started in Puglia at the end of the 1990s is today one of this denomination's most famous names. Thanks to the Tormaresca winery, this region's old native varieties have been rediscovered and re-evaluated and the wines of Apulia have enjoyed a renaissance, something that has much to do with the abandoning of large-scale production in favour of quality.

The values which have sustained Tormaresca's success are none other than those which the Antinori family has been upholding for 26 generations: close ties with the land, clear respect for tradition and history, and a strong commitment to innovation.

In 1998, when the Antinoris alighted in Puglia, they procured estates, Bocca di Luppo in Murge and Masseria Maime in Salento, both with excellent soils for cultivating vines, but with a total lack of structure and procedures oriented towards high quality production. The Antinoris, together with the world-famous oenologist Renzo Cotarella, decided upon the construction of a new, modern building that combines tradition, respect for the environment and innovation.

Calafuria is an expressive rosé originating from vineyards of the Negroamaro variety that grow near the sea. The grapes, harvested and selected by hand, are gently pressed once in the winery, and are maintained at a rigorously controlled temperature during each process in order to preserve all their primary aromas.

Hardly has the nose approached the glass and we can discern its delicious fruit-charged aromas (raspberries, strawberries, cherries), combined with other sweet floral notes of roses and wisteria, and hints of tamarind and grated orange rind. A rosé with a clean and vibrant bouquet which, once on the palate, appears fresh, fruit-forward and saline. An ideal wine to accompany a summer meal focusing on fish.
