The wine

This is the winery’s extra special cuvée that was awarded the maximum 100 points by Robert Parker for the 2004 vintage and classed as one of Spain’s most exceptional and iconic wines. The indigenous Tinta de Toro grapes were rigorously selected and picked by hand from the ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines of a single parcel, aged well over 120 years old.

An extremely rich and complex nose reveals a varied array of black-berry fruits, along with notes of liquorice, truffles, balsamic hints and spices, and these aromas keep evolving and increasing in intensity. Velvety and elegant on the palate, with a perfect integration of tannins, the wine retains balance and full-bodied complexity long into the lingering finish.

This singular wine has been neither fined nor filtered, and twice oak-aged, with malolactic fermentation carried out in barrel until November 2007, followed by ageing in new French oak barrels over a period of 20 months until bottling in July 2009.

They aim to create wines which represent the specific characteristics of the area they are sourced from. They started to buy old local vineyards and carefully built up a collection of plots in the municipal regions of Valdefinjas, Toro, and Argujillo. In their pioneering work they realized that the old indigenous...
