The Kripp family, owner of the Stachlburg winery, is dedicated to making wines in accordance with organic farming principles and presents highly commendable products using native and international varieties. Authenticity and respect for Nature are the precepts that matter to the winery which yearly produces around 30,000 bottles of very palatable wines, made exceedingly well and of premium quality.
The vineyards in which the winery's Merlot grows are located in Andriano, in the province of South Tyrol, at 300 metres above sea level, where the warm, dry climate and the gravelly soils rich in minerals offer the ideal characteristics for growing this well-regarded variety.
Matured for 18 months in Hungarian oak barrels, the winery produces about 3,000 bottles of its delicious Stachlburg Merlot. A wine appearing a consistent garnet-red colour, which reveals on the nose exuberant, rounded primary aromas of black fruits (blueberries, cherries, cassis) and plum conserve, on a refreshing balsamic background of herbs and liquorice. Completing its bouquet are some light spicy notes, hints of leather and coal, with the addition of refined oak whiffs. A complex and harmonious blend that counterbalances the sweetness of the ripe fruit with the bitter touch of its balsamic notes. It expresses itself elegantly on the palate, revealing fine tannins and a convincing freshness, a long and pleasant mouthful which reinforces the aromas we found on the nose.
