The wine

Alfredo Arribas offers us a very varied selection of wines, in both the Priorat and Montsant. They're all original and extremely well-made, thanks to the collaboration of Joan Asens as the team's technical director. There's a wide choice of Priorat wines, but there's one that sets itself apart, Somni, above all because of its coupage, a high percentage of Cariñena (60%) and a quite abnormal 40% of Syrah.

In style it's the most different too: the most robust and voluminous, and distinctly opaque in the glass, clearly maintaining a very well-defined and elegant profile, like all the wines in the Arribas family. Aged in new French oak barrels for a little over a year, Somni is a powerful wine with a real wealth of nuances. Right now it needs some time, like all good Priorats and this particular one is no exception, time to refine its considerable robustness.

After a quiet repose in the bottle, you'll discover that it's a Priorat of great finesse, with a seductive perfume of violets and the flowers of aromatic plants growing around the vineyards, such as rosemary, and also peppery notes which highlight its freshness. It's more of a black fruit wine than a red fruit one, having all the essence and strength of the Priorat terroir, mineral, with a graphite undertone and some earthy notes that confer a rustic character, always tempered by the overall elegance.

Portal del Priorat

Portal del Priorat

Portal del Priorat is the Priorat winery belonging to Alfredo Arribas, the architect, who started his venture into the wine world in 2001. Today he is also to be found in the nearby denomination of Montsant, with his Trossos collection of excellent wines. With Portal del Priorat, Alfredo offers us some elegant single-vineyard wines, from the Clos del Portal estate, covering an area of just over 40 ha, of which 15 ha comprise vineyards that are very low-yielding (approximately...
