The wine
The small Catalan winery Alemany & Corrió defines this wine, created on the Ordal hillsides in the Alt Penedès region, as a structured, honest, and fresh wine with a pronounced sensitivity. A definition we agree with here at Vinissimus. In fact we believe that this splendid old-vine Xarel·lo wine is all this and much more. Principia is a terroir wine, a perfect example of the new Penedès wines which should put Catalan white wines back amongst the top wines where they belong.
What does this wine taste like?
A transparent wine whose yeast is felt even before the very first sip, everything about Principia Mathematica speaks of life, energy and nature. Hints of lemon peel preserve blend with dry hay and very fine bubbles which accompany its creamy pass through the mouth while making it an extremely delicate wine. A wonderful natural acidity mixes with fine salt to create the tense strength of an honest wine playing no tricks. Moments later, withered petals and hints of wood appear, discretely as only a part of the wine is wood-aged. On decanting, its secondary aromas fade and its acidity becomes more citric, adding vigour and elegance to the wine. Aromas of smoke and ripe peaches embellish its finish.

Alemany i Corrió
Alemany i Corrió is the personal project of Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió. They set up their small cellar in Penedès in 1999 and their wines swiftly became cult wines in no time. They have a very special way of working their lands in Penedès thanks to the original way of understanding winegrowing they learnt in Burgundy. Irene's father encouraged them to make wines in Catalonia and ever since then it has been their utmost dedication to the terroir and their passion for...
