The wine

Benjamín Romeo is above all a vine grower. So we shouldn't be surprised either that his wines are essentially fruit-driven. They have a special elegance and refinement, but their fruitiness always stands out. For Predicador, he dedicates the grapes of the estate's youngest vine, capable of achieving the concentration and balance that will characterise this wine. Predicador is a polished grape extract, with all the richness and complexity of a thoroughly fine wine. But Benjamín Romeo is also a winemaker and a very meticulous, exacting man; obviously, the work done in the winery is no less important and we can appreciate that in the wine’s perceptible smoothness, in those velvety tannins underpinning that fresh fruit. A powerful but accessible Rioja, created to reach the general consumer.

What does this wine taste like?

Predicador is a red with a bright, intense colour, which smells of fruit and earth, but also of balsamic notes, menthol and wild herbs; that feeling of being deeply rooted to the earth which is palpable all the way through. This is a concentrated, mature, fresh and complex wine, with a certain minerality (stones), some subtle caramelised sugar notes, liquorice, spices (cloves) and the scent of red roses, and plenty of volume.

Drinking and storing

Decant it at least an hour beforehand, especially while still young, and you will get full enjoyment from this vibrant wine.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

2019 was a healthy, warm and dry year, and the red 2019 Predicador, produced with 90% Tempranillo, 4% Garnacha, 3% Mazuelo and 3% Graciano, is ripe, heady and powerful, with 15.06% alcohol and a pH of 3.67. The wine has ripe black fruit and abundant tannins, with quite a lot of oak after spending 18 months in new and used barriques. It needs time and/or powerful food. 80,000 bottles produced.

Bodega Contador

Bodega Contador

Love of the land, respect for deep-rooted traditions, excellent judgement… and passion, lots of passion. Bodega Contador is the very personal commitment that Benjamín Romeo has made to the lands of La Rioja, a young vine grower with an innovative spirit, very well-versed in French and Spanish oenology, and with considerable experience behind him. Involved in the whole process of making his wines (from pruning to designing the labels, and choosing the oak wood used in making...
