Porta del Vento is Marco Sferlazzo's winery in Camporeale, in the province of Palermo. Located at an altitude of six hundred metres, the estate comprises fourteen hectares of vineyards which grow on steep terraces constantly buffeted by the wind. The organic cultivation methods adopted by the winery, as well as the specific features of the soil and the microclimate and the vines, aged more than forty years old, along with the low yields, offer the best commendation for these healthy, good quality wines.
The Perricone is an age-old red grape variety, native to Sicily but not widely grown. Nowadays, it's mainly found on the western side of the island, such as in Camporeale, where Porta del Vento makes its Maquè, a fresh and balanced wine which charmingly reveals this land's characteristics.
Maquè Perricone is characterised by a nose that seems rather dark, with aromas of black cherries and plum jam on a balsamic background, alongside other notes of oregano, black olives, resin and spices such as cloves and pepper. On the palate it reveal good structure, with well-integrated tannins and just the right amount of freshness and minerality.
