The wine

A popular member of the Bin series, it was first produced in 1959 and owes its name to the Kalimna vineyard in the Barossa Valley, acquired in 1945. The first vintages were made from grapes grown in this single vineyard, but during the 1970s it became a South Australian regional blend. Quality fruit is sourced from excellent vineyards in different areas, with the Barossa Valley still contributing a large proportion. The varietal's distinctive regional features are allowed to integrate in typical Penfolds style.

Dark, with an almost impenetrable depth of colour, this wine reveals intense fruit aromas and spicy hints on a complex nose. It is dense and full-bodied, with good texture and plenty of layers on the palate.

Aged for 12 months in American oak barrels.
