Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is the result of an exceptional terroir and the traditional know-how of centuries of winemaking. Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920, the history of the estate dates back to 1638. Located in the Saint-Julien appellation, the old walls of the Château have witnessed many years of winemaking as vineyards have been passed on across the generations. Covering 80 hectares, the excellence of its soils was confirmed in 1855 when Château Léoville Poyferré and its wines were awarded the 2nd Grand Cru classification.
The winery uses younger vines to produce Pavillon de Leóville Poyferré, a second wine which expresses all the character of the limestone soils so loved by Bordeaux grape varieties. The blend is mainly made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Wooden barrels previously used for one or two wines allow the intensity of the fruit to shine exuberantly.
The final result is a balanced and fruity wine with a velvety feel. Although it may not enjoy the long ageing capacity of its older sibling, it is more accessible from an early age. It displays a bright and intense purplish claret colour and a seductive nose combining subtle notes of coffee, thanks to its time in wood, alongside refreshing minty hints. Blackberries and blackcurrants stand out and rounded grainy tannins give the wine a solid structure. Its particularly smooth feel is a desired characteristic in wines with the intensity of top Bordeaux wines. A medium-bodied wine whose aromas of graphite and cedar transmit typicity while its elegant austerity makes it irresistible. It is a rounded wine with a precise acidity and very well-defined aromas. As with all great wines, it changes with every second it sits in the glass, with new fragrances of black olives, damp earth, or cool spices appearing as time goes by. Ideal for pairing with red meat, and rabbit or game dishes.

Léoville-Poyferré was once part of the much larger Léoville estate until the time of the French Revolution when it was separated into Château Léoville-Las Cases and Château Léoville-Barton. In 1840, Château Léoville-Las Cases was divided again and Château Léoville-Poyferré was created...
