This wine is part of a collection of 4 wines called Nit de les Garnatxes (Night of the Grenaches). All the wines have the Grenache grape as a common denominator and are distinguished from each other mainly by the type of soil in which the vines grow. In this case we find a clay soil (argila), land in a lake area that has been sedimenting due to the presence of water. The red colour is due to oxidation in very compact soils, without oxygen, where the plants suffer and look for the paths where the water filters through. It is a soil of medium acidity, which retains water and nutrients very easily and has a marked tendency to compact. For the production of Nit de les Garnatxes Argila, the grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September, always picking less than one kilogram of grapes per vine. After destemming and crushing the grapes, fermentation begins at a controlled temperature (24-28ºC) and a parallel maceration that lasts for 28 days. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in 500-litre French oak barrels. Afterwards, the wine is aged for 4 months in new 228-litre, medium and lightly toasted barrels. Finally, it is gently filtered and bottled.
This is the wildest of the four wines that make up the Nit de les Garnatxes collection. It is a red wine with an intense cherry red colour and a very intense nose. It is very complex and fragrant, with animal notes mingling with the aromas of undergrowth that remind us of fallen pine leaves and the ground after the rain. On the palate, a rustic, earthy and persistent tannin clings tightly to the cheeks, while the aromas of increasingly intense fruit (cherries) gain prominence. It is powerful and gentle at the same time, fresh and dry.
