We may all be aware of Montevetrano, the Silvia Imparato wine which combines the styles of Bordeaux and Campania and since the 1990s has conquered palates all over the world. Core is the younger sibling of this great wine.
An Aglianico wine at an affordable price but of remarkable quality, which originates from the meticulous care of one of Italy's most respected oenologists, Ricardo Cotarella, who in order to attain the elegance, intensity and balance which characterise Core, submits the grapes to a long maceration for 28 days, followed by fermentation of the must in steel tanks and ageing for 10 months in new Nevers, Allier and Tronçais oak barrels.
Core is as delicious as its label presentation appears to suggest, a wine to enjoy to the full and without worrying about the cost. A light, cheery, modern wine, and representative of its region, a good companion to food and a source of great satisfaction.
Fruit and spices are the prevailing aromas in its bouquet, from which emanate wafts of red fruits, blackberries, plums and ripe black cherries, adorned with touches of cinnamon and liquorice. After these come other delicate roasted and chocolate notes, which are testament to its fine ageing and a very well-balanced contribution from the oak. Although powerful and full-bodied, the palate is most accessible and sure to win yours over too. A well-made wine, from a little-known grape yet with enormous potential, a winery focusing on low, high quality production, the expertise of a famous winemaker and a really affordable price...
