The wine

In the most northerly part of the Chianti Classico denomination, Silvio Messana makes his wines following biodynamic principles, working hard on and for the land, using his expert hands to express the special characteristics of this terroir. In Cerbaia, where the winery is located, the soil is predominantly of clay with sandy and loamy areas, giving rise to wines with a good amount of alcohol, mature aromas and fleshiness on the palate. Messana also owns parcels at a higher altitude, at around 450 metres, with the presence of limestone soils subsequently being reflected in the marked acidity we find in the Montesecondo Chianti Classico.

An authentic Chianti Classico made using the Sangiovese variety with a small addition of two other indigenous grapes: the Colorino and the Canaiolo. These two varieties, mostly emanating from old vines, impart balance and good length to the end result.

A wine appearing a resplendent ruby colour that highlights on the nose its varietal notes: cherries, flowers, raspberry conserve and afterwards, delicate spices and notable minerality which portend quite an invigorating mouthful. On the palate, expectations are not disappointed and the Montesecondo Chianti Classico is authentic and decidedly substantial: juicy, crisp, fruity and fresh, with a touch of harshness to the tannins and a pleasantly bitter, lengthy finish.
