The wine

This wine comes from goblet-grown vines in poor soils with a sandy texture in the Rioja Alta area. They are over 35 years old on average and yields do not exceed 5500kg/ha. The grapes are carefully harvested and transported to the winery in small containers. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28ºC, prior bleeding and long maceration of three weeks in contact with the skins. Ageing in French and American oak barrels (90%-10%) for 28 months and subsequent refining in the bottle for at least four years until leaving the cellar.

Ruby red with marked meniscus. Excellent brightness and limpidity. On the nose, after its first contact with oxygen, it is shy and frank. Notes of sweet wood, cinnamon, clove and candied fruits appear. Endless nuances that change over time. In the mouth it is subtle and pleasant, with great finesse on the entry and passage. Extremely polished tannin and serene acidity that maintains a long aftertaste.

Bodegas Montecillo

Bodegas Montecillo

The origins of Bodegas Montecillo are to be found in Fuenmayor, one of the villages with a longer history of winemaking in Rioja Alta. Surrounded by vines and close to the serene and benevolent waters of the majestic Ebro, the landscape of Fuenmayor is one of gentle hills and, in the distance, the rocky outcrop of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. The locals have always known that the spectacular El Montecillo landscape is home to top quality...
