The wine

Massolino Barolo is a great classic wine, with 30 months of ageing in French oak barrels. The result is an elegant, precise and extremely pleasant red which sets itself apart due to its excellent quality/price ratio.

What does this wine taste like?

With a perfectly defined bouquet, the Massolino Barolo is notable for its floral aromas (roses and violets), red fruits (raspberries and strawberries), nutmeg, leather and liquorice, on a balsamic and mineral background. It's a real pleasure to swirl the glass gently and be captivated by its open and expressive nose. On palate it exhibits plenty of body and comes over rounded, with fine and silky tannins.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Jancis Robinson

Massolino's classic 2017 Barolo sees most of its fruit come from Serralunga d'Alba, although a small percentage of the blend comes from Castiglione Falletto. Compared to its peers from this hot and dry growing season, this wine is delicate and almost fragile. It softly reveals cassis, red berries and exotic plum. A second wave of aromas introduces spice, red earth and rusty notes. These results achieve very good balance overall.

Youthful mid ruby. Beguiling nose of concentrated cherry, dark spice and minerally, stony notes. Shows real generosity on the nose. Palate equally generous, with concentrated, juicy sour-cherry fruit lined with long, powdery tannins. Hedonistic, for sure, and so confident! Ready now but will improve. Simply delicious and definitely one of the vintage's best buys.
