The wine

In the scene of the great Cerasuolo wines from Abruzzo, Villa Gemma is definitely a leading figure, and is one of the best-known rosé labels in Italy and recipient of important national and international awards. With its distinctive Montepulciano verticality, Villa Gemma comes from magnificent vineyards at 400 metres above sea level in the Chieti hills, in clay- and limestone-rich soil. These are ideal conditions, of course, for rosés, which are intense and fresh coupled with warmth and elegance. In the glass Villa Gemma immediately strikes you with its great character: cherry red in colour, with surprising hues of purple, this wine does not disappoint the expectations of stunning rosés with its colours and sensations of a young red wine.

Indeed, there are unexpected fruity aromas on the nose which are not just fragrant: with subsequent smells, Villa Gemma exposes its currant and wild berry notes, then over-ripe sour cherries, herbs, tomato leaves and peppers. Its flavour is as equally outstanding, which is surprising for its freshness and intense verticality, leaving you amazed with its long finish. The finish has the same aromas enriched with a very long balsamic finish which lures you into reaching for yet another glass.

Pairings are infinite, but especially amazingly rich food. Redfish soup, for example, is the perfect accompaniment to the velvety delicacy and its hints of pungent minerality. Or a traditional Amatriciana, which is the ideal companion to this Cerasuolo, softening out the pecorino cheese and the guanciale in a marvellous symphony of healthy fattiness and marked aroma.

Masciarelli

The Masciarelli winery was one of the protagonists of the rebirth of Abruzzo wine and is certainly one of the largest and highest quality in the area today. It certainly ranks among the great ambassadors of Italian wine in the world. A winery of undisputed quality, which expresses itself at high levels of excellence right from the entry level wines, including the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo of the classic line, which not by chance is always among the bestsellers of Italian...
