The wine

Malleolus de Valderramiro is a fine wine, powerful and intense, with great ageing potential, which owes its name to the Pago de Valderramiro, three vineyards growing Tinto Fino vines (a pure Tempranillo clone) aged more than 90 years old (1924). An extraordinary wine, exhibiting the intensity of the terroir it comes from, which endows the wine with a huge balsamic intensity and a captivating unctuosity. Pictured on the label, Don Emilio Moro can be seen pruning in the Pago de Valderramiro itself.

Experts from all over the world have surrendered year after year to the charms of this magnificent Ribera red. Not without good reason, the Wine Enthusiast magazine placed it among the world's ten best wines in its 2015 list. Such a level of excellence can only be explained by the terroir; the old Tinta Fina vines deliver very modest yields (2,500 kg/ha), concentrating the essence of the best fruit. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in American oak then receives an ageing of 18 months in French oak.

In appearance it boasts a lovely cherry colour and high density. Releasing elegant aromas, it mingles hints of black fruit liqueur and liquorice with touches of cocoa, tobacco and flower petals. On the palate it's intense and sophisticated, with refined, lush tannins that conquer the palate immediately; concentrated as well as fresh. A toasty, mineral aftertaste which goes on for ages, especially after decanting beforehand.

Emilio Moro

Bodegas Emilio Moro has the perfect platform for producing great wines: family tradition (José and Javier Moro are the third generation of vine growers), a strategic site (in the heart of the Ribera del Duero), pure clones of the indigenous grape, excellent quality soils (clay, chalk and gravel) and an ideal orientation. The winery currently owns some 200 hectares of vineyards, planted and grafted with an excellent Tempranillo clone recouped from their oldest vineyards. Some...
