The wine

La Vicalanda Viñas Viejas 2019 is a sublime expression of the oldest vineyards in Rioja Alta, an emblematic wine region in Spain. This wine is the result of a careful selection of Tempranillo grapes from old vines, more than 30 years old, which gives it a unique concentration and depth. The 2019 vintage stands out for its exceptional balance and for faithfully reflecting the character of the Rioja terroir.

On the nose, La Vicalanda Viñas Viejas 2019 displays a complex range of aromas, from ripe black fruits such as plums and blackberries, to spicy and balsamic notes, with hints of cocoa, vanilla and fine wood, the result of its ageing in French oak barrels. On the palate, it is a structured, elegant and rounded wine, with silky tannins and a balanced acidity that gives it freshness. It is long and persistent on the palate, leaving a finish that combines ripe fruit with light mineral and spicy nuances.

This wine has been aged for 14 months in French oak barrels and refined in the bottle, which gives it a great capacity for ageing, evolving in a sophisticated way over time. Ideal with grilled red meats, game stews and cured cheeses, La Vicalanda Viñas Viejas 2019 is the perfect choice for those looking for a refined and complex, yet accessible wine.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The old-vine cuvée 2019 La Vicalanda Viñas Viejas was produced with Tempranillo from 40+-year-old vines in Rioja Alta and was fermented in concrete, followed by malolactic in French oak barrels and élevage in oak vats and barrels for 12 months. It has 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.74. It's modern, fruit driven and generously oaked with spice and some creaminess. The fruit is darker and has an earthy touch. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022.
