The wine

Izar-Leku is the result of a project designed by the Artadi winery and the Zapiain-Alustiza family in the town of Zarautz (Gipuzkoa). A sparkling wine made using traditional methods from a base of txakolin wine, produced with the Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarribi Beltza varieties.

This Brut vintage has received excellent reviews in its short time on the market, which coincide in highlighting the wine's originality. It has quickly gained many fans among both wine-lovers and the hospitality industry.

What does this wine taste like?

A wonderfully flavoursome, deep and complex wine with an excellent stylized body, a long mouthfeel and a saline taste which makes it stand out from other sparkling wines. Izar-Leku is a wine brimming with energy, a great aromatic complexity, and a strong minerality. Nuts and marine sensations provide its aromas, while the sensations in the mouth are both wide and long. Its precision, dryness, and purity make it an irresistible and extremely moreish drink.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The sparkling 2018 Izar-Leku is from the Getariako Txakolina appellation and was produced with 90% Hondarrabi Zuri and 10% Hondarrabi Beltza grapes. It was kept with the lees for one year (one-third in barrel) and with a second fermentation in bottle where the wine matured with the lees for 36 months (they don't want a longer time with the lees). It has 12.55% alcohol, a pH of 3.123 and 8.2 grams of acidity, which is quite high, making it vibrant and lively on the palate and with a bone-dry finish. It has a fascinating and complex nose that is very attractive, aromatic, expressive and open. 2018 was a cooler year with more rain in Zarautz, and the search is for purity, finesse and depth. It has abundant yeasty aromas and a saline note and is clean and delicate with very abundant bubbles. It feels a bit too young (keep it for a while) and with very high acidity. 16,000 bottles produced. It was disgorged in September 2022.

Artadi

Bodegas Artadi is, in fact, the name by which the Cosecheros Alaveses cooperative is known, a well-orchestrated project that started up in 1985, in which several vine-growing associates became involved to show that cosechero (young red) wine could also prove to be great wine. They were successful, with their cosecheros and all the other wines they have added to their catalogue. During the 1990s, under the direction of Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, the winery saw its prestige...
