The wine

A single varietal Tinta Fina originating from old vineyards over 80 years old, with grapes undergoing a double selection (in the vineyard and the winery) and meticulous ageing: 36 months in new barrels from three French woods, spending 12-month periods in each of these three types of oak, and a further 20 months in bottle in order to refine to the utmost its elegance and complexity.

A cherry-red colour, with ruby hues on the rim and great depth, Gran Valtravieso Reserva makes an impressive display on the nose with very intense aromas of fruit, of undergrowth, notes of blackberries, sweet almonds, chocolate, liquorice, other spicy and mineral hints which contribute a sensuous touch to the mix. On the palate, it appears very rounded, with sweet, powerful and well-worked tannins. Balanced, with good acidity and freshness. It has excellent body which endows it with a feeling of fullness and a long finish.

However, it wasn't until the González Beteré family acquired the property in 2002 that Valtravieso's wines really got underway. The Valtravieso philosophy is based on the...
