The wine

Gran Caus Tinto is a wine that encapsulates the essence and richness of the Penedès region, known for its diversity of soils and its ideal climate for high-quality viticulture. This red wine represents the passion and commitment of the Can Ràfols dels Caus winery to create wines that reflect the uniqueness of its terroir, using viticultural practices that are respectful of the environment and the nature of the grapes.

Made mainly with the Merlot grape variety, complemented with touches of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, Gran Caus Tinto is the result of a meticulous selection of grapes from carefully tended vineyards. These varieties, grown in vineyards located on limestone and clay soils, benefit from the Mediterranean climatic conditions with maritime influence, which contributes to the balanced ripening of the grapes and the complexity of flavors and aromas of the wine.

Visually, the wine presents a deep and bright red color, which invites closer exploration. On the nose, it displays a rich aromatic palette where notes of ripe red fruits such as cherries and blackberries predominate, intertwined with subtle nuances of spices, aromatic herbs and an elegant touch of oak, the result of its aging in barrels that provides complexity without overpowering the expression. fruity.

In the mouth, Gran Caus Tinto is powerful and structured, with balanced acidity that provides freshness and liveliness to the whole. The tannins are soft and well integrated, giving the wine a silky texture and a generous palate. The flavors of ripe fruits are complemented by notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla, derived from its aging in the barrel, culminating in a long and persistent finish that leaves a lasting impression.

This wine is an ideal companion for red meat dishes, game, Mediterranean cuisine dishes rich in flavors and cured cheeses. It is also excellently enjoyed alone, allowing the taster to fully appreciate its complexity and depth.

Aged in French oak for 12 months and a minimum of 6 years in bottle.

NOTE: It is recommended to open it one hour before serving, at room temperature in winter, cool in summer.

Gran Caus Tinto is a testament to the skill and vision of Can Ràfols dels Caus to produce wines of unique character and exceptional quality, offering a sensory experience that reflects the essence of its land. With each sip, this wine invites you to explore the richness and diversity of Penedès, a region with a long wine-growing tradition and a promising future in the world of wine.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The most classical among classics is the red 2019 Gran Caus, the archetype of a Mediterranean Bordeaux blend, produced with 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has notes of herbs, pine needles, green peppercorns and a lactic touch with some sweet spices. It has elegance, finesse and balance, contained ripeness and 14.42% alcohol, with a surprising pH of 3.19. It has complexity and develops further aromas of iron and blood with time in the glass, along with saline hints of sea breeze and a smoky touch of cigar ash. This wine has a track record for aging in bottle. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2020 after it spent 18 months in French oak barrels.
