The wine

An estate wine, or more correctly a wine from two estates: Mas Escorpí and El Serralet, and a lovely interpretation of the Chardonnay grape in the Penedès region. A white with a lengthy fermentation, lasting 43 days, a longer time than usual, due to a yeast which works very slowly (Saccharomyces uvarum) and results in a notable glyceric content.

Mas Escorpí is a very good Chardonnay, as one would expect from a producer of Gramona's stature. A Chardonnay with a wide-ranging aromatic display of fresh fruit, especially dessert pears, along with tropical hints (pineapple, mango, kiwi), citrus fruits (lime, grapefruit, lemon), touches of white flowers and a very pleasant aniseed aftertaste. On the palate it has a fresh entry, medium-bodied and an abundance of fruit. Its surprising glyceric content endows it with lots of unctuosity and the nice acidity found on the finish imparts great freshness.

Located in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, its products succeed in expressing all the elegance and identity of a markedly Mediterranean terroir and are distinguished by the excellence accruing from the lengthy ageing periods spent in bottle, the common denominator found in the world's finest sparkling wines. Gramona enjoys a great reputation too for its still wines,...
