The wine
Gómez Cruzado Vendimia Seleccionada is a splendid Rioja red wine made from equal amounts of Tempranillo and Grenache grapes. An easy wine to drink, with a wonderful depth and complexity. It has gained in freshness and elegance over the years as the winery reduces the presence of wood in the equation, offering a modern image of Rioja wine with a stronger vintage character.
What does this wine taste like?
Vendimia Seleccionada delights the drinker with juicy (red) fruit, hints of liquorice, and herbal touches which add freshness to the sweet Grenache character. Only 20% of the wine is aged in oak so as to maintain the primary essence of its fruit. It is a juicy wine, medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and a silky texture.

Winemaking
Grapes are harvested by hand and then carefully selected in the winery. They then undergo three days of pre-fermentation cold maceration with daily pump-overs, before fermentation starts at controlled temperatures in cone-shaped stainless steel tanks. A part of the wine is then aged in French oak for 5 months while the rest stands on its lees in concrete tanks.

Vineyards
The vines, over 30 years old, grow on two wonderful hillsides in the Ebro Valley. Tempranillo vines thrive on the chalky-clay whitish soils in the Sierra de Cantabria hills, while the Grenache vines are cultivated on the iron-rich clay soils of Sierra de la Demanda, in the Alto Najerilla area.
