The wine

Finca Resalso is a young wine which sets out to show the boldness and expressivity of youthful vines, something that causes no difficulty for the discerning Moro family. Energetic and original, far-removed from the notes of over-ripe fruit and heavy vanilla overwhelming some Ribera del Duero wines; a very polished nose and a juicy, refreshing palate. Entirely likeable, a wine with all the Ribera character in a very accessible profile.

What does this wine taste like?

Finca Resalso is a wine that seeks to show the spirit and expressivity of the young vines, appearing a lovely Picota cherry colour with a vivid crimson rim and tears slow to slide down. The first olfactory sensation is unusual, and stimulating too. There's no perception of the over-ripe fruit and vanilla notes so often found in Ribera del Duero wines: it exudes spicy and floral aromas, hints of olive groves and undergrowth. The oak slowly makes its way through, in the form of glimmers of coffee and sweet spices, but always subordinate to the intensity of some exceptional and juicy bramble fruit. The entry is very fresh — in fact the whole wine is — from start to finish; the toasty notes hit the centre of the tongue while the acidity glides along the sides. Lactic traces, thoroughly pleasant and rounded tannins and a full-on, harmonious finish that leaves a lush touch and shows an authentic Ribera character.

Food pairing

Seeing as it’s a wine focused on the kindly side of the Ribera’s Tinto Fino and not its powerfulness, we can use it as a wild card when pairing with food. If we’re thinking of meats, the obvious choice is red, but it can work well with white meats too, especially when grilled or roasted. Charcuterie, hard cheeses and also appetisers and starters, when not strongly-flavoured, prove good alternatives.

Emilio Moro

Bodegas Emilio Moro has the perfect platform for producing great wines: family tradition (José and Javier Moro are the third generation of vine growers), a strategic site (in the heart of the Ribera del Duero), pure clones of the indigenous grape, excellent quality soils (clay, chalk and gravel) and an ideal orientation. The winery currently owns some 200 hectares of vineyards, planted and grafted with an excellent Tempranillo clone recouped from their oldest vineyards. Some...
