The wine
Eugénie de Montijo, the last Empress of France thanks to her marriage to Napoleon III, would surely be proud of this wine, a product of the vineyards that used to belong to her. It may be the second wine of the Hermanos Hernaiz winery but many Rioja producers can only hope that their first wines be as fresh and elegant as El Jardín de la Emperatriz (the Empress's garden).
It has already won the top critics over with its very first vintage, receiving 93 points from James Suckling, 91 from Luis Gutiérrez for Robert Parker, and 91 points in the Guía Peñín wine guide, where it has also been awarded five stars for its excellent value for money.
What does this wine taste like?
The excellent result is a fresh, delicate and elegant wine with a classic profile. A medium-bodied wine whose ripe red and black fruit aromas, spicy notes, and elegant tannins make it versatile and very easy to drink.

Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz
Finca La Emperatriz is one of the very few Rioja wineries to produce their wines from one single vine-growing plantation, which is customary in Bordeaux's Médoc region (other Rioja wineries employing the same model are Remelluri, Valpiedra and Contino). This is an estate of excellent quality whose potential had already been recognised at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878 and which concealed a very important history. The estate originally belonged to Eugenia de Montijo,...
