The wine
The 2019 Domaine de Chevalier is an elegant and complex red wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France, made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep purple in colour, on the nose it displays a sophisticated combination of ripe black fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants, accompanied by notes of cedar, tobacco, graphite and a subtle mineral touch.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with finely integrated tannins, vibrant acidity and a silky texture, offering flavours of scorched earth, truffle and spices that culminate in a long and balanced finish. Aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, this wine has excellent ageing potential, recommended for drinking between 2025 and 2060. Perfect for pairing with red meats, game and aged cheeses, Domaine de Chevalier 2019 is a true expression of the refinement and mastery of this historic winery.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Suckling
The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of baked plums, black cherry compote, fruitcake and violets plus wafts of fragrant earth and rosehip tea. Medium-bodied, the palate has loads of fruit with plush, rounded tannins and a lively finish. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this vintage spent 18 months in French oak, 35% new.
Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Bursting with red cherry and hints of violet on the nose, there is intrigue and joy here. The palate shows much flesh and vibrancy, with plump red berries at the core. The acid is positively zesty yet lifts the fruit into floral tones rather than washing away the flavour. Fleet-footed and long on the finish. A wine that transparently exhibits the better elements of this vintage.
Lots of blueberry, hot-stone, slate and walnut aromas. Terracotta, too. Iodine. Full-bodied, round and dense with layers of fine tannins. Lovely depth and intensity. Extremely long and focused. Needs three or four years of bottle age just to start. Try after 2024.
Customer reviews
