The wine
Never tired of experimenting, in 1988 Marco De Bartoli also wanted to try this type of marsala, always and deliberately kept aside, since the only wine to be able to boast the adjective "virgin" was according to his personal vision the Old Samperi , obtained without any addition of alcohol.
It is a wine of extraordinary complexity and balance, such as to be a meditation wine, to be enjoyed with a large cognac-type glass and to replace an Extra Old (XO) distillate. To be served at room temperature or slightly cold (14-16 ° C)
The Marsala Vergine Riserva 1988 is a unique work. This unpublished, controversial wine, so traditional and modern at the same time, is the result of the tireless experimentation work carried out by Marco over the years. Pure cricket, from sapling stumps that originate between 1970 and 1996 in the territory of Contrada Samperi in Marsala.
Fermentation is traditional with indigenous yeasts in oak and chestnut barrels at room temperature. Fortification with the only addition of brandy obtained from the same grapes, carried out in 1988. Bottled in January 2019. Over 30 years in chestnut and oak barrels of different sizes.
