The wine

Cloudy Bay is one of the most iconic wines in all of New Zealand, the wine that defined a style and catapulted the Marlborough region onto the world stage. The sauvignon blanc vineyards from which it is made are located in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions of the Wairau Valley, on free draining gravel soils with shallow sandy loam horizons. Its concentrated and vibrant character, with beautiful citrus and stone fruit perfumes, coupled with a special subtlety and poise have, over the years, built up a truly prestigious image for Cloudy Bay around the world.

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is the freshness of lime, grapefruit and passion fruit, combined with juicy stone fruit characters that meld together, underpinned by subtle minerality. The fruit is concentrated and vibrant, fresh and well-balanced. Hints of cut grass and green onion accentuate the ripe tropical fruit on the nose. Intense flavours of guava and passion fruit permeate the medium-bodied palate, underscored by attractive notes of white grapefruit.

It has notes of gooseberry and pineapple up front, and shows beautiful harmony and roundness. It is easy to drink, with hints of nectarine joining the creamy-textured palate. Hints of pea pods accentuate the tropical fruit notes in a smooth, round and harmonious wine, showing ample concentration and length. The long, impressive and silky finish suggests that the wine will age gracefully for many years to come.
