Château Martet Réserve de la Famille
2018Spec sheet
The wine
The Réserve from the Famille of Château Martet has now come to be a wine that’s essential for getting to know Bordeaux wines and the Merlot grape. It began by being a benchmark for the Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux (Entre-Deux-Mers) appellation, but its sensual unctuosity and its delightful aromas and notes of blackberries and truffles soon seduced the palates of the general public, elevating it to a place amongst the most eminent. Undoubtedly, a top of the range wine with rounded, velvety tannins providing pleasure and delicacy in equal measures, not to mention its incredible price-quality ratio.
What does this wine taste like?
It’s a violet shade of red in colour. On the nose, mingling notes of black fruit (blackberries, blackcurrants and plums) and truffles give way to a palate which makes clear, after just one sip, that this is a top-end wine. It’s immediately rounded and meaty, and develops on the palate with finesse rather than powerfulness. It’s balanced and structured, both smooth and flavoursome, sensually unctuous and showing great suppleness. Its tannins are rounded and velvety, so pleasant and delicate, the true essence of Bordeaux.

Château Martet
The thirteenth-century monastery at Château Martet was bought by the current owners of the winery in 1991. They immediately decided to focus their work on producing elegant top-quality wines in line with the noble origins of the winery. Only 25 km from Saint-Émilion, their vines thrive in lands which were already renowned for their vine-growing qualities back in Roman times. They own almost 25 hectares of vines on the plains and hillsides of Dordogne,...
