The wine

The 'Appellation' wine range from Bodegas Catena Zapata faithfully replicates the concept of Burgundy's village wine. Just as happens in France, this wine collection has its main focus on the terroir, which means the region's origin becomes much more important than the grape variety or the ageing. The wines are named after historic vineyards, small in size, such as Lunlunta, Agrelo and La Consulta.

Featuring among them is this Catena Paraje Altamira Malbec, a red made solely from the grapes of the location, a magical spot with chalky soils capable of producing wines which have fantastic acidity and impressive minerality.

What does this wine taste like?

In every one of the little over 54,000 bottles of Catena Paraje Altamira Malbec there's a wine of an intense purple colour and a concentrated nose of ripe woodland fruits, blue flowers and orange peel. Its palate is complex and concentrated, with very well integrated tannins and the limestone offering all its elegance. Complementing its silky feel, there are hints of fine spices and cocoa that culminate in an exceptionally long, dry and polished finish, with a refined mineral touch.

Bodega Catena Zapata

Bodega Catena Zapata

In keeping with family tradition, Nicolás Catena Zapata is now the third generation to run the winery and can count on daughter Laura to follow in his footsteps. They have been able to make the most of terroir best described as poor, yet exceptional, holding to the firm belief that these particular lands possess hidden qualities, excellent for grape-growing. The wine-making philosophy of Nicolás Catena lies in the art of blending fruit from different vineyards. Despite the...
