The wine

Cantariña 3 El Triángulo 2018 is an exceptional red wine from the Bierzo region of Spain, produced by the Cantariña Vinos de Familia winery. This wine is mainly composed of the Mencía variety (95%), complemented with small amounts of Garnacha Tintorera and Doña Blanca (5%), grown in the unique triangular plot ‘El Triángulo’ of Viña de los Pinos.

Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, the wine has a deep, dark colour, accompanied by floral aromas, forest fruits and hints of woodland. On the palate, it is silky and balanced, with a freshness and minerality that stand out, and delicate tannins that prolong its finish on the palate. This wine, produced in a limited edition of only 780 bottles, is ideal for pairing with red meats and intense dishes, or to enjoy on its own and appreciate its complexity and richness

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

I guess you make mistakes in the beginning, because the 2016 Cantariña 3 El Triángulo had a very poor cork, irrespective of the price of the wine. It comes from an old plot planted with Mencía and perhaps 10% other varieties (Garnacha Tintorera, Palomino, Grao Negro). The grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in two 225-liter oak barrels for one year. It has berry fruit and spices and something a little blurry that made me hesitate, plus a dry touch on the palate. Looking at the cork, I could only wonder if the bottle was in good shape... The wine felt good, but there was something not quite right. As they didn't register in the DO until 2017, all the wines from before are sold without the appellation of origin. Only 525 bottles produced.
