The wine

An interesting example of what a Pinot Noir can make of itself in the Penedès region. A one hundred per cent Pinot Noir sourced from the Mas Escorpí vineyard, 23 years-old and supplying very limited yields, which results in this wine being produced only in special vintage years. Fermented and macerated in French oak casks and matured on its fine lees until the first racking in spring, after 9 months spent in new barrels the wine is then bottled, where it rounds off for at least a further year.

On the nose, Bru de Gramona Pinot Noir exhibits aromas which feature nicely-ripe forest fruits (blackcurrants, Picota cherries, blueberries), along with pleasant balsamic, mineral and earthy touches (humus, damp earth, fallen leaves, scrubland). There in the background are some refined and seductive spicy notes, such as white pepper, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, it gives a silky, vinous entry, with a plentiful supply of fruit confirming the notes discerned on the nose. It has a meaty structure, marked tannins and a long, complex finish. As regards pairings, it is a particularly good accompaniment to protein-high dishes: red meats, poultry, grills, hearty soups, lamb, roasts...
