The wine

Ángeles de Amaren came into being in honour of the mother of Juan Luís Cañas, the winery’s owner and manager.

Made from grapevines aged over 40 years old, this is a limited production wine which reflects the area’s particular essence.

Each variety has gone through production and been aged separately, in order to preserve the fruitiness of the Tempranillo and the spiciness of the Graciano.

Aged for 16 months in new French (50%) and American (50%) oak barrels.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

A blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, the 2018 Ángeles de Amaren is a juicy, clean and modern Rioja. It matured in 225-liter first and second use barriques (65% of them French and the rest American), which has lent it faint spicy and smoke aromas and more noticeable flavors and tannins. The fruit is ripe and the wine has concentration and 14.5% alcohol; it is quite extroverted and showy, with ripe flavors and grainy tannins. 78,594 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.

Bodegas Amaren

Amaren started up in the year of the 1995 harvest in honour of Ángeles, the mother of Juan Luís Cañas, the owner and manager of Bodegas Luís Cañas. Eventually in 2009 his dream of dedicating a winery to his mother became a reality. Its cornerstone is the search for perfection in all fields: the vineyard, selection, production, and ageing process in order to obtain wines which touch the senses and bring enjoyment. They own 22 hectares of vines...
