Inspired in traditional 19th century production methods, Pacto Navío is an authentic Cuban rum named after the 1815 treaty which restored peace between France and Spain in Europe, and trade with Cuba. At that time, merchant ships travelling to Havana from France transported barrels of Sauternes wine to be drunk by the sailors during the voyage. Once the empty barrels had arrived in Cuba, they were filled with rum which would then take on the exquisite character and aromas of the sweet wine during the return trip. Pacto Navío is made from a blend of up to ten different base rums which, as back then in the eighteen hundreds, ages first in white oak barrels, followed by three months in Sauternes casks. The result is a perfect balance between the flavours of sugar cane and grapes; a pleasant and sweet, artisanal rum.
