Uva Rara
Probably synonymous with the Piedmontese bonarda, uva rara is a typical red grape variety of Piedmont, especially the northern part, and the Pavia area. It is almost always used in blends, so much so that, after croatina and barbera, it is the most typical red grape of the Oltrepò Pavese. Ruby in colour, it expresses quite intense notes of morello cherry and red fruits. With a fairly long finish, it gives a wine of good elegance and balance.
