Trebbiano Spoletino
Trebbiano spoletino is, after grechetto, the most representative native white grape of Umbria. A grape variety that still is being rediscovered and recovered, it is still widely grown with masts, that is, with the vines clinging to the trees. The most suitable area is the plain of Trevi, now dominated by olive trees, but the vine is particularly characteristic of the Montefalco area, which it shares with sagrantino. If it were fully rediscovered, trebbiano spoletino would undoubtedly prove to be one of the most original white wines in Italy. Trebbiano spoletino, in fact, is very different from trebbiano toscano, since it produces wines with fresh and elegant aromas, with fruity notes, tropical hints, intense spiciness and vibrant acidity. On the palate, actually, it is distinguished by a certain structure, and in fact it is well suited to ageing in steel, wood or amphora.
