Terrano
Teran is the red grape variety that best characterises the viticulture of Trieste Karst. The ferrous, porous, stony and mineral soils of this area of Venezia Giulia make this grape, which belongs to the refosco family, particularly suitable for reds of medium structure and excellent acidity. Across the border, in Slovenia, it is called teran. The wine obtained from it generally has an intense ruby colour and fruity and mineral olfactory notes. On tasting, it expresses itself with medium structure, important tannin and acidity, pleasant sapidity and, in general, a certain herbaceous rusticity. It can be tasted as a young meal wine or, in some versions, as a more austere red wine for medium ageing.
