Frappato
Native to the Ragusa area for some, native to Spain for others, frappato, in the Sicilian district of Vittoria, is rightly considered a vine of the territory. Here it expresses itself at its best and, above all, represents one of the greatest challenges won in rediscovering quality wines on the island. Some, perhaps exaggerating a bit, liken it to the subtle but complex personality of a pinot nero. Of course, this carat is typical of frappato: intriguing, seductive, enveloping on the nose, with fruity, floral, iodine notes of aromatic herbs and dreamy spices, it caresses the palate with incredible elegance, with its soft tannins, a subtle and delicate structure and, almost magically, an infinite persistence. Belonging to the Calabrian nerelli and gaglioppo family, it expresses a generally superior profile, strengthened by a consolidated improvement. It contributes to the only DOCG of the island, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, up to a maximum of 50% (the other half belongs to the more immediate, full-bodied and jammy nero d'Avola), but it is vinified more and more often, and with amazing results, as a single variety.
