Alicante
Belonging to the large international grenache family, the Italian Alicante is a Mediterranean red vine widespread especially in Maremma, on the Tuscan coast, and locally in Liguria and Sicily. According to scholars, the Italian version of this grape derives from the crossbreeding of the Iberian grenache with the petit bouschet. It was once used as a blending grape to give more colour and structure to Sangiovese from Maremma, like Morellino di Scansano. Nowadays it is appreciated more and more often as a single variety, as it expresses very well, if the structure is governed, the Mediterranean territory, with perfectly integrated minerality and sapidity, for the benefit of a drink that defines it as a drinkable red, perhaps a little chilled, even in the summer season.
